Kirtland Safety Society Bank $10

A signed and issued note from this bank that was organized by Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon in 1836. It was to be the repository for Mormon Funds. Plates for these notes were procured and notes printed before the decision on the bank charter was made, so the bank simply issued them. Short of hard money, the bank soon refused to honor its notes, which eventually led to the Mormon exodus to Illinois. This note apparently was not redeemed or used later in Utah. This note is Haxby OH 245 G10 and Rust 8.
