Fr. 597 $50 1902DB
Grade:
VF/XF
This $50 is nice and fresh with great color and centering along with nice pen signatures. There are six First Charters and five $50s in the census. Purchased from Stack's in March 1990. Pontiac had a tough inception, riddled with disease, slow development and unfulfilled promises to Livingston County led to multiple efforts to move the county seat or otherwise undermine the town. A settlement called Richmond was erected just two miles away on prospect of the Chicago & Mississippi Railroad passing there. Richmond soon merged with Pontiac when the rail line found its way there instead.
