This is a pleasing $10 Brown Back that is one of four Brown Backs known, three of those are $10s. The note is well centered and with pen signatures. Pontiac had a tough inception, riddled with disease, slow development and unfulfilled promises to Livingston County led to multiple efforts to move the county seat or otherwise undermine the town. A settlement called Richmond was erected just two miles away on prospect of the Chicago & Mississippi Railroad passing there. Richmond soon merged with Pontiac when the rail line found its way there instead.
