A very pleasing and evenly circulated note with well stamped pink signatures. One of 12 large notes reported. This was acquired from Lowell Horwedel. Rantoul was laid out by the Illinois Central Railroad in 1854 as Rantoul Station, named for a director of the railroad. The Station was dropped in 1862. In 1917 the Chanute Field was opened nearby, becoming Chanute Air Force Base. Its closure in 1993 has been devastating.
