Pekin, Herget NB, M9788 #1
Fr. 619 $10 1902DB
Grade:
Ch. AU
This beauty is a family bank "Herget" National Bank. This #1 note is nearly the best note recorded. Excellent pen signatures of George Herget, President and H. Turner, Cashier. No doubt from the Walter Herget collection. Pekin was surveyed in 1829 and named by the wife of one of the first landowners, who thought that their new town was exactly across the world from Peking, China. Pekin was divided during the Civil War, having both northern and southern settlers. There was an Underground Railroad stop in the town and was the site of the first organizational meeting of the Union League of America.
