Evanston, City NB, M5279
Fr. 490 $10 1882BB
Grade:

This is one of three $10 Brown Backs known from this bank but it's second to the #1 also known. The note has excellent pen signatures that I believe are from J.F. Wora, President and Charles Stevens, Cashier. This is 1 of the 15 first title notes. There is slight paper clip rust on the back. Evanston began as part of Ridgeville Township in 1850, just a few miles outside Chicago. It is the home of Northwestern University, founded in 1851 and whose founders would lead the plan to form Evanston, succeeding in 1857. Evanston declined to become a city in 1869, despite state legislation granting it.
