There are 19 large notes reported on this Henry County bank. This lovely example has one penned (president) and one stamped signature. Geneseo was the idea of seven Christian families who had decided to form a frontier church. They traveled through the winter of 1836 from Geneseo, NY, while their town was under construction. It saw little growth until the arrival of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad in 1854, soaring the population to ten times its previous 500.
