Forrest, First NB, M7680
Fr. 616 $10 1902DB
Grade:
F/VF
This note is one of only two notes known on this charter and town. The bank printed just 2,421 sheets. This note is among the collection's rarest banks. Office signatures of J.M. McDowell, President and J.W. Jennings, Cashier. Originally planned in 1866, Forrest, unlike many early Illinois towns, followed the arrival of the railroad in the area by a decade. By 1870 the town had over 1,000 residents and its second railroad, the Wabash, arrived in 1880, making Forrest an important stop between Chicago and Kansas City.
