Martinsville was home to only one national bank and we have a real peach to represent that institution. Organized in 1903, Red Seals became the first type to be issued. Some 850 sheets of $5-$5-$5-$5 and 840 sheets of $10-$10-$10-$20 were printed, followed by considerably more Blue Seal sheets. Just two Red Seals are recorded, both from the same sheet. This note was last sold in a 1996 Stack's sale and has been buried ever since. Its sheet-mate has never appeared publicly. Not a surprise, as notes that look like this one don't turn over very often. Totally fresh and still showing deep embossing, this note is just a few faint bends from CU. Great purple signatures of Louis Laper, President, and O. A.
