Elgin was home to four national banks and all but one issued $50s and $100s at some point. This note comes from a bank that only issued high-denomination notes, except for a few $5 Brown Backs and some First Charters. There were 1,960 sheets of $50-$100 Red Seals printed and this example is new to the census, making a total of two $100s and one $50. The other 19 large notes known are Brown Backs and Blue Seals. This example has some restoration work done on the folds and, interestingly, the autograph of Ivy Baker Priest on the front. Only 120 $100 Red Seals are known for the entire country. The bank officers' pen signatures are weak but are determined to be D. F. Barclay, President, and A. C. Hawkins, Cashier. --- Jess Lipka Red Seal Collection --- Jess Lipka Red Seal Collection
