This 'jewel' meets all the criteria that Dr. Lee looked for in his collection. It's a UNIQUE bank and the first bank in town. This is also the earliest possible note. In June 2009, when we sold this note in the Van Belkum sale, I said, "There is little doubt in my mind that this unique note was the "prize" and first choice favorite of Louis Van Belkum's Michigan Collection. It's both his hometown, unique and lovely so isn't that enough? This bank was chartered in 1864 and liquidated in 1883, issuing only First Charters." The note realized $12,650 in that sale. The Dr. Wallace Lee Collection.
