$1000 Cotton Certificate Issued November 1st, 1862, First Issue for this variety, S/N 1001 out of 1001 to 1500, Signed by Tyler. Black letterpress, printed on white paper, Payable at Charleston or Savannah. VF condition with a pair of POCs at center, slightly rough margin at right. Rarity 7+ with 4 to 10 extant, 500 issued. One of four certificates procured by John J. Ford in London from the Erlanger firm (S/Ns 1001 to 1004). Back is signed by James Murray Mason, who was forcibly removed from the CSA ship Trent by the U.S. Navy, precipitating an international incident with Britain, known as the Trent Affair. Rare.
