$1000 Cotton Certificate Issued November 1st, 1862, Last Issue for this variety, S/N 1000 out of 1 to 1000, Signed by Tyler. Black letterpress, printed on white paper, Payable at New Orleans or Mobile. VF condition with a pair of POCs at center, some very small pieces missing from margin. Rarity 7 with 11 to 20 extant, 1000 issued. While 1000 certificates were prepared, none were issued due to the Erlanger Loan. One of four certificates procured by John J. Ford from the Erlanger firm in London in the late 1950s (S/Ns 997 to 1000). Back is signed by James Murray Mason, who was forcibly removed from the CSA ship Trent by the U.S. Navy, precipitating an international incident with Britain, known as the Trent Affair. Rare.
