National Bank Notes > Colorado
Fruita, First NB, 8840
Fr. 652 $20 1902ND
Grade:
Fine
This Mesa County bank note is new to the census, bringing the total to only five large notes reported. This example is circ with generally even circulation and decent color. The president's signature is blurred but the cashier's, L.S. Stewart, is clear. We sold a Fine 15 for $4,312 in June 2008 in the Mayer Collection and this note appears to be better than that. Fruita was established in 1884 by William Pabor, who advertised extensively about this fruit-growing area of western Colorado. The town was first called Mesa in postal records and later Fruitdale for a short time.
