Monroe Bank of Monroe $2
Grade:
PMG VF 25 Net
This Deuce was issued by this Mormon owned bank on September 1, 1836. It is signed on the President's line by O(liver) Cowdrey, who served as Joseph Smith's scribe as he translated the golden plates that became the book of Mormon. Cowdrey was the second Elder of the Mormon Church and was viewed as Joseph Smith's successor. But Smith and Cowdrey had different ideas on how the church should be run and he was excommunicated in 1838. PMG Notes minor rust, but it is so minor is hard to see. This note is Haxby MI 280 G22 and Rust 20.
