Lot #1003 - Central City, Colorado Territory, First NB, 2129

Finest Graded Colorado Black Charter Territorial

National Bank Notes > Colorado

Central City, Colorado Territory, First NB, 2129
Fr. 401 $5 1875
Grade: PCGS VF 30 PPQ     PCGS
According to the National Bank Note Census there are 21 Territorials reported from this charter and of those all but two are $5 1875 Series Black Charter numbers. There are four notes that are currently listed as higher but none have been graded. I just found this serial number listed at AU in the census so there are always exceptions. This example is very pretty, bright and PPQ. ---- In May, 1859, gold was discovered by John Gregory in what became known as Gregory Gulch. Thousands poured into the area, and Central City was so named because of its central location among the various camps such as Blackhawk and Mountain City. The population grew from 598 in 1860 to a peak of 3,114 in 1900. By 1920 the population had dropped to 552, where it stayed for another decade. No wonder both national banks had closed by 1933.
Current Bid: $ 32,000.00

Estimate: ($ 35,000.00 - $ 45,000.00)
