This is the sole serial #1 note to appear in the Track and Price auction records. There are 18 small notes reported from this one-bank town. Carbondale's economy was initially agriculturally based and provided food and supplies to the silver miners in Aspen. Now, it is a bedroom community for those that can't afford the high prices in Aspen. No problems are mentioned by PCGS nor do I see any. This note sold for over $1,200 four years ago, and is just as significant today as it was then. From the Rocky Mountain Collection. ---- Carbondale was named by John Mankin, one of the founders, for his home town in Pennsylvania. The economy was originally agricultural, providing the food for the miners in nearby Aspen. Before Idaho became known for potatoes, that crop was Carbondale's primary product.
