A large group of Eads notes hit the market around 2006, including several #1 small notes. Now in 2015, that group is mostly forgotten, with specimens popping up only sporadically. This is certainly one of the finest serial #1 examples available, and it is no wonder it ended up in the Rocky Mountain Collection. ---- Eads was named for James B. Eads, an engineer who built the Eads Bridge across the Mississippi at St. Louis. The town was originally called Dayton when the railroad pushed into the area. However, the tracks stopped 3 miles short of the town, so all the buildings were picked up and moved to the railroad. (It must have been expensive to lay track back then.) The new location got the new name of Eads.
