UNIQUE GLOBE, AZ RED SEAL
National Bank Notes > Arizona
Globe, Territory of Arizona, NB, 8193
Fr. 640 $20 1902RS
Grade:
VF
The Globe mining district was formed in 1872 with silver, and then copper, becoming the mainstays of this isolated area, about 100 miles from anywhere, but in the midst of the Apache, who were not at all enamored with the new settlers and they let that be known. Stories of just about everyone who was trouble in the early days of Arizona can be connected to Globe in some form; there is a rich history there.
Within a state where rarity and Western romantic lore runs deep, this note still stands above nearly all others. This is an attractive Red Seal Territorial that is unique for the bank, having issued only 2,500 sheets of Red Seals and 1,018 sheets of Datebacks. This is the sole remaining example known to the collecting fraternity and, amongst collectors, it is exceeded in pure rarity only by the Bisbee note. Just two Brownback only banks remain unknown; both are on locations with multiple issuing banks, although neither issued more than 562 sheets nor stayed in business for over a year. This jewel is clearly Very Fine, with lightly-stamped signatures enhancing its appearance.
