Checotah is in McIntosh County in what was the Indian Territory and was named for Checotah, the first chief of the Creek Nation. When this note was issued the population was approximately 800; it was growing from ranching and good land. This note is one of four Territorial notes known. Clearly signed by Perry and Martin. IN 2005 the finest known Territorial realized $23,000 but this note and the others have been off the market for a decade or more. Only 18 large notes are reported, including the four Territorials.
