This outstanding $100 was acquired by our consignor as an AU from the May 2001 CAA auction for the then record price of $34,100. It is every bit as significant today as it was then. It is still one of the top four pieces extant, with no known uncirculated examples. Only 13 notes exist in all grades. The last time a Fr. 176 sold at auction that even approached the condition of this note was when the Peter Gamble specimen, a PMG-30, brought $48,875 in January 2008. Before that a PCGS AU-58 brought $62,100 in the October 2005 Rickey Collection sale. One of the highlights of this sale and the kind of high-grade rarity that is fast disappearing from the market.
