We are happy to offer this very scarce and seldom available Wide II star. The ordinary 1950 stars are difficult enough, but the Narrow and Wide II varieties are especially hard to come by. Track and Price has recorded just one Wide II star for all 12 districts. That note was a single Gem CU Cleveland Wide II star, which appeared in 2003, 2005 and most recently in the April 2008 Heritage sale where it brought $19,550. Of course, those were heady days, and that record number will not be matched any time soon, even by the same note. I think the 2003 result of $5,060 makes more sense for the value of a Gem note today, and in turn, our estimate for this lovely AU seems about right. I doubt that the note we offer here ever saw actual circulation since there is nothing one could point to and call a fold. It just has too much handling to call it CU. Nicely embossed.
