Last First Charter to Issue

National Bank Notes > Texas

San Angelo, Concho NB, 2767
Fr. 405 $5 1875
Grade: VF
The Act of July 12, 1882 provided for a new series of notes and provided for new note designs with denominations $5 through $100. Existing banks had their corporate lives extended 20 years. Newly organized banks, and those extended, began receiving new notes. Somehow, some five weeks after that Act went into effect, this plate was made and these notes were printed. Thus, this is the last first charter note. The note is signed by Geo. Webb, Cashier and Philip Ledu (?), President. This is one of six First Charters on this great Texas First Charter bank. It was the highest charter used on a First Charter National Bank Note. Simply a wonderful bank title. The note has excellent pen signatures and even, honest circulation but there is still plenty of body. This would be the first Texas First Charter I would want as a collector.
