Rare $100 Pigeon Roost Gold Rush Note
Obsolete Notes & Miscellaneous Items > Georgia
Dahlonega Pigeon Roost Mining Co. $100
Grade:
Fine 12 Apparent
August 1, 1838. The highest denomination from this Georgia gold rush issuer and exceedingly rare. The only other example we recorded is the plated note in Muscalus Georgia Local Business Notes monograph. That was also a low serial number like this example. We would presume these $100 notes were limited in issuance and most were redeemed for gold or less denomination notes. There are some repairs noted on the back by PCGS, but this faces up very nicely and was well received when sold at auction in the Alan Dorris sale a few years back. In the interim, it was displayed for a year at the Museum of American Finance in the Wall Street area. Truly, the term museum caliber piece is not hyperbole here.
