Rothert 427-1. Signed by William Pope and bearing low serial #10. Pope was the Postmaster in town from 1849-1855 and again from 1861-1864, the period during which this note was issued. The obligation states "Redeemable in Confederate Money, in sums of $20, when presented at the Post Office." This was the lowest denomination issued. PCGS notes minor stains and pinholes. This is listed as Rarity-7 in the Rothert reference and when these do appear, which isn't very often, they sell for several hundred dollars.
