Raised Denomination 8 Pound Pennsylvania

Colonial Currency > Pennsylvania

PA-219b 8 Shillings April 10, 1777 Red and Black
Grade: PCGS Apparent VF 20     PCGS
A truly invigorating example of a raised denomination Colonial that is the only note we have seen for this colony and the only one we can recall that was raised to an unissued denomination. The 4 Pound note is the highest denomination for this series and one really needs to do some investigatory work comparing scans of 8 Shilling and 4 Pound notes to see that this is indeed a raised denomination note. This note has some of the usual problems associated with 200+ year old circulating notes and the raising of the denomination was clearly someone's nefarious attempt at making some extra money. Once this opportunity passes, it is up to the Fates if it will be back around in our lifetimes. Splits, tears, minor damage.
