Lot #1982 - Fr. 1254SP 10c Third Issue Wide Margin Face Specimen

Fractional Currency

Fr. 1254SP 10c Third Issue Wide Margin Face Specimen
Grade: PCGS Ch. New 63 PPQ     PCGS
The book by Robert Kravitz states that the Fr. 1254 is very rare and that only eight pieces are known. Other experts claim even fewer pieces can be traced, claiming just five are known. Either way, this is a highly important Fractional Specimen that few collectors will ever have a chance to acquire. It is virtually identical to the O'Mara example sold in 2005, except three edges on this note exhibit a fine roughness as opposed to being razor sharp. That is your assurance that this example is in possession of its original margins! The bronze overprint is fully reflective and the signatures have not eroded the paper. A similar example, graded PMG 63 but without the EPQ designation, was auctioned in September 2009, bringing $8,050. This slightly nicer piece should do better.
Current Bid: $ 4,800.00

Estimate: ($ 8,000.00 - $ 10,000.00)
