San Jose, Farmers National Gold Bank, 2158
Fr. 1148 $10 1874 GBN
Grade:
F/VF
This is what most want Gold Bank Notes to look like - yellow and bright with the vignettes of the coins on back that look gold as well. There are 12 Original Series $10 San Jose notes known and that's not many. This note last appeared in a 1973 Bowers & Ruddy sale where it brought $625. In that sale this note was graded VG/Fine and now I call it F/VF. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the grading services called is VF 20 because it is so bright with decent paper quality and overall appearance. I believe of the 10 notes in private hands that none may grade higher today than this example! The pen signatures are bold and as strong as the color.
