Holbrook was named in 1881 for the Chief Engineer of the railroad, Henry R. Holbrook, but the first settler was Juan Padilla. After the railroad arrived in 1881, it quickly was established as a shipping and distribution center for southeast Arizona. The town is near several major Indian reservations as well, but it had no national bank until 1922. There are 10 notes reported on this bank, but eight are in various conditions from being buried, so, if you want a good one there are only two available of the 3,837 sheets of large notes issued.
