National Bank Notes > Colorado

Steamboat Springs, First NB, 6454
Fr. 624 $10 1902ND
Grade: F/VF
This classic Colorado name is on everyone's want list. The Kelly census lists three large and one small note. One of the large notes is a Red Seal that turned up in an abandoned safety deposit box about 30 years ago and was privately placed in a major collection. The other two large notes are both Blue Seals. One, a VG, was sold in the 2005 FUN sale for $16,100. This is the second piece, from an amazingly popular ski resort in Routt County and was obtained from my 2000 Memphis sale. Those two Blue Seals are the only public appearances of any note on this bank in six decades. The unique small size was discovered about 20 years ago and was placed in one of the foremost Colorado collections. This note last appeared in our 2008 sale where it realized $8,800. I might suspect a bit of a price uptick from 2008 as there were so many Colorado notes available at once, but this one has such a great name. There are no distracting marks or problems, although the president's signature is faint. It is also slightly nicer than the other Blue Seal.
Current Bid: $ 7,500.00
