Amazing Statehood Pair of First Charters #2546 Western NB of Pueblo & South Pueblo
National Bank Notes > Colorado
South Pueblo & Pueblo, Western NB, 2546
Fr. 405 & 408a $5 1875
Grade:
Fine +
This may be one of my all time favorite pairs of First Charters from the same charter number (#2546) and bank title, yet with two different names - Pueblo and South Pueblo. Records indicate that this bank was chartered in 1882, five years after Colorado had become a state. The South Pueblo title was used until 1893 and there are three notes reported, all $5 1875 Series. The second title was taken in 1893 and there are two First Charters known; this $5 and a $20 that is in an institution. There are other notes on the Pueblo title as well. It's a very rare occasion to get two different names on the same charter and to have them so evenly matched I had to offer them together. A very rare opportunity indeed! Another interesting fact is that there is only 16 state issued $5 First Charters on the state and four are on this charter.
