There are 27 large notes reported on this Madison County bank and three are Red Seals, with this note being the best. Brilliant signatures of James Belt, President and H.R. Woodard, Cashier. This note was purchased in 2001 at $3,575. Collinsville, 12 miles from St. Louis, was settled early in Illinois history but had no formal organization until 1850. It was recognized as a city in 1872 as coal mining was becoming a staple in the area.
