There are 25 small notes reported on this bank and this is a pleasing circ example. Duquoin was first settled by non-natives as early as 1803 and takes its name from Jean-Baptiste Du Quoin, son of a Frenchman and native woman and chief of the Tamaroa tribe who originally settled the area. A rail line passed near town in the early 1840s, prompting rapid growth leading to incorporation in 1853.
