This Gundy County bank was unavailable for decades but now there are five large and one small size note reported. This jewel has signatures of Wm. Campbell, President and N.R. Campbell, Assistant Cashier. We sold a similar grade note in 2013 for $4,140. Coal City opened its first mine in 1875, taking six years to be incorporated as a village. There was a large disaster in 1883 at the Diamond Mine, trapping and killing 74 men.
