This bank has 72 small notes reported and they issued $50s and $100s. This UNC is nice; notice the top cut. East St. Louis was initially settled as Illinoistown and can trace its settlement to 1797 with the establishment of a ferry across the Mississippi River connecting it to St. Louis. The name changed upon its incorporation in 1861. It was the organizational center of a major railroad strike in 1877, devastated by tornado damage in 1896 and the stage of racially-motivated labor riots in 1917.
