National Bank Notes > Illinois
Ridgway, First NB, 9439
Fr. 626 $10 1902ND
Grade:
F/VF
A rare bank in Galliton County with only five large notes reported. Only Blue Seals and small size were issued. A clear pen signature of the president but a poorly stamped one for the cashier. Ridgway is located in southern Illinois, north of Shawnee National Forest, just 10 miles west of Indiana. The town was named after Tom Ridgway who was instrumental in getting the railroad to pass through the area. Ridgway, once home to a popcorn plant, is the self-proclaimed "Popcorn Capital of the World". Popcorn Day continues as part of the Gallatin County Fair and is held the second Saturday in September.
