This is presumably the finest of the Blue Seals, but the #1 $5 Brown Back is better. This note is one of 21 large notes recorded, with one stamped and one penned signature. Earlville began its development as a permanent settlement in 1844 with the addition of a post office. It saw rapid growth in the late 1850s due to the arrival of the C. B. & Q. Railroad and was incorporated officially in 1863.
