Golconda, First NB, M7385
Fr. 642 $20 1902DB
Grade:
VF +
A seldom seen Pope County bank with only 12 large notes reported, and none listed above a VF. This note has excellent quality but there is a spot under the signature of Henry Walter, Jr., President. W. H. Whiteside signed as cashier. Golconda was an early settlement in Illinois, with the first Ohio River ferry crossing established in 1798. It was founded in 1817, named for an ancient city in India. It is infamous as being the Ohio River crossing for 13,000 Cherokee on their way to Oklahoma on the Trail of Tears.
