Lot #1255 - Freeport, Second NB, M385

Wonderful Red Seal

National Bank Notes > Illinois

Freeport, Second NB, M385
Fr. 613 $10 1902RS
Grade: Ch. CU
This Red Seal is one of the most beautiful notes in the collection, and it happens to be the only Red Seal from this bank with 11 large notes recorded. There are nice $5 and $10 Brown Backs known, but nothing like this. Nice pen signatures of W.W.B. Elson, President and D.F. Graham, Cashier. Freeport takes its name in homage to an early settler, William Tutty Baker, who ran a free ferry across the Pecatonica River in the 1830s. In 1858 it was the site of the most significant of the Lincoln-Douglas debates, where Douglas answers to questions on slavery alienated the south and split the Democratic party, aiding Lincoln s victory.
Current Bid: $ 5,500.00

Estimate: ($ 3,500.00 - $ 7,500.00)
