Here is a beautiful Red Seal from this Macoupin County bank. Within the 10 large notes reported this a $10 Red Seal almost as nice. This example has amazing pen signatures. Gillespie enjoyed its greatest success in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a coal mining center. The first settlers arrived in 1825 but there was nothing as formalized as even a post office until 1854.
