$20 Gold Certificate Missing Overprint
Error Notes > Gold Certificates
$20 1928
Grade:
PMG Abt. UNC 53
This note last sold publicly in May, 1998 for the princely (but deserved) sum of $17,600, or about 2.5 times what small size double denominations were realizing at the time! If that trends holds true today, this will carry a value of $60,000 plus. Our error consultant, Frederick J. Bart, reports that there are three Gold Certificates missing the overprint. All three originated from the small size $20. This is the second finest, with one CU and one VF/XF in the census. With entry level/common double denominations available with great regularity and consistently bringing $25,000, this irreplaceable trophy boasts excellent intrinsic value. Regardless the cost today, no amount of money will secure another example tomorrow.
