I wouldn't have been so quick to label the First National Bank the hometown favorite if I saw this equally compelling early $5 First Charter from Louis Van Belkum's hometown. This bank has virtually identical stats as the First National Bank. It was in business from 1865 to 1885 and issed only First Charters. This note is unique and very pretty. Signed by Theo. Gilbert and a name I cannot decipher. An exquisite piece of Grand Rapids history. From the Louis Van Belkum Collection.
