Fr. 456 $100 1875
Grade:
VF +
This is my greatest pleasure to offer of any note I have in this auction. There are 71 $100 First Charter examples known in total: 20 Original Series and 51 Series of 1875. Within those numbers, virtually half can be eliminated because they are not as high grade, and probably many of the VFs as well. This note is a perfectly evenly-circulated note that is problem-free and has complete originality and great front centering, tilted just a hair on the back. The colors are bold and rich. This is definitely a note for type collectors in general and, of course, local and state collectors would be remiss if they did not give this note serious consideration. This bank issued only First Charters between 1865 and 1884 with 1,400 sheets of one $50 andone $100 Original Series, and 2,484 sheets of one $50 and one $100 Series of 1875. National Bank Notes as types have long confused collectors, but the fact is they are extremely rare as types and, as more collectors recognize their rarity, the price will undoubtedly continue to rise. Don't wait to act if you can act now; few pleasing, pretty examples are ever seen outside of the finest collections and chances are few to acquire those examples outside of institutions.
