This has always been one of my favorite Kentucky banks. A wonderful family named institution, it is both rare and a pleasure to behold. I first saw this note in the 1980s when one Richard Montford pulled this Red Seal out of his gym bag (AKA his bank note vault). Back then Richard had two prices, not for sale and $2,500. Needless to say, I paid the then outrageous sum of $2,500. It took a long time to sell, but I enjoyed it all the while. This is by far the finest of the four recorded specimens, of which three are Red Seals. Glenn Martin had an example but it was pretty low grade. The Gale example was only a little better. This piece, with a great serial #1000 and fabulous signatures of A.C. Witherspoon, President and W.G. Witherspoon, Cashier can't be beat. Would be uncirculated but for a couple of corner folds.
