When national banks started in the 1860s Boston was the banking Mecca but by the time Red Seals came into play, the banks had consolidated and were continuing with few new charters appearing. Seventy-three national banks were chartered or had title changes to Boston and of those, 19 issued Red Seals. Only one bank was chartered in 1902 and first printed Red Seals. This bank printed 3,545 sheets of $5-5-5-5 and 2,680 sheets of $10-10-10-20 Red Seals. Five notes are recorded, including $5, $10 and $20 #1 Red Seals. A magnificent note with the bottom selvage and excellent pen signatures of Charles Jones, President and A.C. Kollock Cashier. --- Jess Lipka Red Seal Collection --- Jess Lipka Red Seal Collection
