National Bank Notes > Illinois

Sesser, First NB, M8758
Fr. 615 $10 1902RS
Grade: VF
The First National Bank of Sesser was organized in 1907 and apparently only placed one order for Red Seals. They issued just 175 sheets of $5-$5-$5-$5 and 180 sheets of $10-$10-$10-$20 Red Seals. From that, they went to Blue Seals, although production was low for those as well. The bank closed in 1930, leaving just $660 outstanding in large size. What remains is a very rare Illinois bank with three large and four small notes reported. Thankfully, someone saved a couple of notes from the first sheet of $10s issued. This is the better of the two #1s. It brought over $8,000 when it was last on the market in 2001. Pen-singed by R.D. Webb, Cashier, but the president's signature is illegible. --- Jess Lipka Red Seal Collection --- Jess Lipka Red Seal Collection
