Wow, what's not to like about this note? The folds are faint, the paper fresh and the colors are sharp and deep. Being a $20, there is even an extra-wide margin at the bottom. Just over a dozen large notes are reported, two of them Red Seals. This example is new to the census, and it is a fine addition indeed. There were two banks in St. Charles, but the other bank issued First Charters only. This bank, however, started with 2,080 sheets of Red Seals. Only one of the other Red Seals has ever appeared at auction, surfacing three times between 2000 and 2004, when it finally disappeared. The last time it sold it brought $5,750 and that was for a note a full grade lower than this $20 we offer here. Stupendous pen signatures of Chas. H. Lungreen, President, and C. J.
