This is the black back $100 of 1880 and it is one of only 10 examples in private collectors hands today. This note has an illustrious pedigree back Abe Kosoff in 1951, then the FCC Boyd Collection and it's next appearance was in a 1998 CAA sale where it was very conservatively graded About VF. Today the note has been graded About UNC 55 by CGA, a fact that makes me realize that grading standards will never be universal. This note is, without a doubt, either the second or third finest known example. The finest known was in the Rickey sale where it realized $210,000 hammer. This note has great centering and a horizontal fold, any vertical fold would be very faint. A great note that should see a strong bid.
