U.S. Treasury Department Specimens - Bureau of Engraving & Printing

An original and intact vignette book. Blank front cover. The spine is titled "U.S. Treasury Department - Specimens." The title page inside states "U.S. Treasury Department, Specimens. Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Washington. Geo. B. McCartee. Geo. W. Casilear." There is a red treasury seal included with a host of flourishes fluttering about. George B. McCartee was Chief of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing from 1869 to 1876 so this tome must date to that time period. The entire album contains approximately 130 impressions, many of which are portraits, allegorical vignettes, etc. Each specimen is printed on India paper and mounted to thicker cardstock. Thin leaf paper is seen between the gold-leafed pages. Many of the impressions are from engravings found on Federal currency. A really high quality vignette book that should prove our estimate laughable. If you have paid attention to auction prices in recent years, individual vignette impressions sell for quite a bit of money.
Current Bid: $ 3,500.00

Estimate: ($ 4,000.00 - $ 8,000.00)
