Fort Scott John S. Miller & Co., Bankers 5c

John S. Miller arrived in Fort Scott, KS with his family on March 5, 1860. He soon became immersed in a hardware store and banking. He was elected mayor in 1862 and in the Fort Scott Bulletin, on November 8, 1862, it stated there were several banking officers in town but none better. It also stated that he issued fractional notes out of necessity for lack of change. (Information obtained from the Kansas Paper Money book by Steve Whitfield.) A nice looking remainder note.
